The Civic, Heritage and Amenity Society for Southborough

Objectives of the Southborough Society.

The Southborough Society was formed in the 1960s.  All our work is done on a voluntary basis.
We are a registered UK charity (No. 260979).

The Objectives of the Southborough Society are to:
  • Encourage high standards of planning, architecture and road development in Southborough and its surroundings.
  • Stimulate interest in Southborough and care for the beauty, history and character of the Town and its surroundings.
  • Encourage the preservation, development and improvement of features of public, historic or architectural interest in the Town, the Common and the surrounding countryside, including footpaths, bridlepaths and trees.

We do this by:

  • Organising meetings, lectures, exhibitions, films, walks, and social activities.
  • Publishing newsletters and distributing these and other publications.
  • Co-operating with other bodies in the Town and elsewhere with similar aims and objectives.
  • Raising funds for schemes to improve the Town.
  • Purchasing land or property with a view to preservation.

Membership

Membership of the Society is open to anyone who is in sympathy with the objectives of the Society.

Organisation

The Society has a President and a Committee who are elected annually by the members.  The purpose of the Committee is to organize and co-ordinate the activities of the Society, to represent the Society, and to manage its affairs.
