SOUTHBOROUGH AND HIGH BROOMS MAP.

The Southborough Society, has produced a map of the local area. The map is surrounded by twelve illustrations of local buildings and sites of particular interest which include: St Peter’s Church, Salomans, Holden House, The Weavers, Bounds Lodge and the railway viaduct at High Brooms. This is the third version of the map, the first to be produced in colour and measures 42 cm x 42 cm (16.5 inches x 16.5 inches).
The map and illustrations were drawn for the Southborough Society by local artist and illustrator Olwyn Kinghorn of West Park Avenue, Southborough, who can be seen in the photograph below handing over a framed copy of the completed map to Clive Tayler the Chairman of the Southborough Society. Clive Tayler said “that he and the Southborough Society Committee were extremely pleased with the completed map and hoped that it would help to publicise the local civic society as well. highlight the number of interesting and historical buildings that we have within the local community”. Olwyn Kinghorn stated “that she had thoroughly enjoyed doing the project and although she had lived in the area for some years she was surprised by the number of changes that had occurred within Southborough and High Brooms since the last map was produced in the mid 1970s”.
The top photograph shows the map in some detail.
Copies of the map can be purchased at a cost of £11-99 plus £3-00 to cover postage and packaging in a strong cardboard tube.
